The Tobago Heritage Festival is one of the biggest cultural celebrations in Tobago, focused on preserving and showcasing the island’s traditions, history, and identity. 
An annual festival (usually held in July–August). It is a celebration of Tobago’s African heritage, folklore, and village traditions. Organized with events happening in different villages across the island.


What happens during the festival

Each village hosts its own event, highlighting something unique:

  • Traditional dances (like the famous Bèlè dance)
  • Drumming and music performances
  • Storytelling and folk plays
  • Re-enactments of historical life (slavery, emancipation, village life)
  • Parades in traditional clothing
  • Lots of local Tobago dishes (crab & dumpling, callaloo, roasted breadfruit)
  • Craft, art, and handmade items

People dress in old-style 19th-century clothing. A full mock wedding is performed with humor, drama, and music. It shows how weddings were celebrated in the past
